School Hat&Scarf Code

School Hat&Scarf Set, originally uploaded by ThatGirlKnits.

My daughter’s school has a strict dress code, so much so, that even their outerwear, including coat, hat, and scarf must be in either Navy, or Black. I did not even look to see if a cute hat and scarf in navy, or black even existed. I figure that I would be hard pressed to find those colors for a little girl, as most things I see in my travels are pink, or covered in Hannah Montana or annoying loud prints. Instead, It gives me an excuse, (not that I need one) to create plush beautiful outerwear in Navy or Black. As a result, I get to smack my designing chops, and create from my own personal vision. Last year, pending her return to school, I decided that I can contribute to her winter gear. I spotted this gorgeous set of twisted cable like stitches, in a vintage pattern book from the sixties, and used that stitch to create a knitted hat, scarf and a pair of mittens. I managed to find a vibrant Ella Rae Extra Fine Heathers yarn in Navy blue, and set out to get my creative juices flowing. In looks, feel, and texture, this is one of my favorite yarns to knit.

This year, I opted out of making another set, as this set is still perfectly good, and I've considered myself lucky that they haven't been lost. So why test fate? Instead, I think an adorable poncho is the way to go this year.
